THE STAR

A watercolor illustration of the Star tarot card, featuring a long-haired woman facing away and standing in a pool of water, looking towards mountains. A bright yellow eight-pointed star is in the blue sky. A winding blue river bordered by clusters of small red flowers flows through green fields towards the mountains. By the cycle breaker tarot

The Star isn’t just about hope; it’s about the vulnerability of being seen without your labels. It’s the moment after the Tower falls when you realize that your worth isn’t tied to your roles or titles—it’s found in your "beingness."

The faith card. The card which tells you everything will be fine. To trust in the universe. There is always light, even in the darkness. Why do we have to be reminded of this all the time? Why are we always so worried? When did we lose faith in the universe? Do you have faith in yourself?

As I write this, I've only recently started this journey of hand-painting a full tarot deck. I don’t even consider myself an artist, a writer, or a tarotist. And yet, here I am, pouring color onto paper, writing away my unpolished thoughts and trying to decipher ancient archetypes. Perhaps the Star is the permission to create without the need to claim the title.

I find it annoying, this tendency we have to label ourselves for what we do—for what society thinks we are worth. Traditionally for women, we are labeled as a 'wife' or a 'mother', a 'daughter'. We are labeled in who we are in relationship to somebody else. Recently there has been a surge of women who resist those labels and want to earn a “name of their own” through some professional work or job title. Without realizing that this is just another label. Always prisoners of society's opinion about us.

Who are we without those labels? Can we still feel worthy in our nakedness?

When everything has crumbled down (The Tower) and we still haven’t seen through the mystery (The Moon). But deep down we know that our inner child (The Sun) is waiting patiently on the other side. Waiting for us to stop worrying. To put our 'adult labels' down. So we can start playing joyfully on this beautiful life God has given us. To realize that it is ok to let go of what is no longer serving us. That not having armours or labels or masks is ok. We are still here. The universe does indeed have our back, because we are made of it. We are made of the same stuff stars are made of. Isn't that magical?

Can we learn to love ourselves for our beingness? To see the magic of being alive? To be able to explore this universe as a human being? With a brain with the awareness to reflect back on itself? Can we make more time in our busy lives to ponder about these kinds of things?

Be the courageous adult your inner child needs you to be, and dare to discover who you truly are behind those labels. And if by doing this, you get labeled yet again, then let the world label you. You know labels are just words! Words help you convey ideas like I'm doing right now. Words, images, painting, music, art, those are the heart’s language.

What does your heart want you to convey today? What is holding you back? Can you allow yourself to rest in your beingness without needing to label it?"

These words are an invitation to reclaim that part of yourself that got stuffed down under all those labels.

Be bold, be wild, and be your own rock STAR.
