THE HANGED MAN

A watercolor painting depicting a unique interpretation of The Hanged Man tarot card. A female ballerina in a pink tutu is suspended upside down by her ankles from a rope tied to a tree trunk. She holds her hands on her hips with a composed expression, and a glowing yellow halo surrounds her head, which features a prominent bun and blue eyes. Bright pink and purple paint splatters drift against the white background. By The Cycle Breaker Tarot

The dance of “knowing & not knowing”

Have you seen a ballet dancer flowing effortlessly through the air? How many hours of practice and bloody toes do you think it takes to achieve what seems to be a dance on the clouds?

There must be a moment, after all that practice, where the body takes over and the dancer no longer makes a conscious move, but moves with the flow. Or does the flow move through them?

How many hours of sacrifice does it take to achieve perfection? Is it you who is really dancing? Or is it God dancing through you? Is the work you put in about mastery, or is it about learning to surrender? The surrendering of all the parts of yourself that are no longer necessary or are simply weighing you down?

What if the perfect dancer has been there all along? And all the work is about stripping away all the layers of conditioning that tell you otherwise?

I am that which is left after I have taken away all that I am not.

When we come into this world, we are already painters, dancers, singers, artists, and performers. Have you seen how kids do all that so carelessly and effortlessly? They just dance away; they don't care if they do it “right” or not.

When did we stop being so free? When was the last time you did something just for the joy of it? When did we stop swirling and spinning around just because it was fun? Can you take some time every day to paint or sing or dance or spin? Only because it is fun?

When you pull the Hanged Ballerina, you are called to shift your perspective and start seeing life through the eyes of a child. When you start doing what you love just because your inner child wants to do it, you will see how you start to master time. Time will seem to expand; you will be able to do more fun things in a day and experience eternity in a minute. Simply because you will learn to live in the present moment—in that split second where you are floating in the air, like a ballet dancer.
